This post will be free to all subscribers, I hope you enjoy the book sharing posts and if you do I’d be grateful if you would share the love.
I like sharing a series with you because if you like the first one you have many more to read and for readers like us that is just the best news. A whole slew of new books that you are likely to enjoy because you enjoyed the first one.
This is one of those series, there are 26 (the 26th is due out this year) books so far, Nancy Atherton being a prolific author.
Aunt Dimity’s Death introduces us to Lori Shepherd who is a little down on her luck having just been divorced, lost her mother who was her only relative, and is financially strapped when she receives a letter from a prestigious Boston law firm, Willis and Willis, run by a father and son team, telling her she has been left a small fortune and a honey-colored cottage in the Cotswolds in England, however, to collect her inheritance she must travel to England, stay in the cottage and solve a mystery.
The woman who bequeathed all of this to her is known to her as Aunt Dimity a person she thought was a figment of her mother’s imagination. Each night before bed Lori was treated to a story of the adventures of Aunt Dimity while she snuggled down with her stuffed friend, a rabbit named Reginald. To find that Aunt Dimity was an actual person, her mother’s dearest friend with whom she corresponded throughout her adult life shocked Lori considerably.
As instructed, Lori travels to England with Bill Willis, the younger of the two Willis lawyers, and in the village of Finch in that lovely cottage, she gets to know Dimity Westwood as she and Bill solve the mystery with a little ghostly help.
It’s really a charming story. It’s the book you read when the world is too much and you need comfort. You should read it while drinking tea and perhaps nibbling a scone.
I have read all the Dimity books and while some were not as enthralling as others I have enjoyed them and they have one shelf to themselves in one of my bookcases, so that should let you know how much I like them.

I'm having a ball following along with your book recs the past few months. I love to read and most of these titles are new to me. I tried I'd Rather Be Reading a couple years ago and abandoned it thinking it had nothing new for me, but I recently tried it again and found many chapters that were surprisingly original. I'm currently in the middle of The Religious Body and LOVING it. So thank you!
I’ve always enjoyed the culinary “murder mysteries“ by Diane Mott Davidson. Her main character is named Goldy Schulz who is an amateur detective and runs a catering business in the fictional town of Aspen Meadow, CO. There are 17 or 18 books in the series, and I think the best part of the books is that she includes a great deal of recipes.
Unfortunately, Ms. Davidson wrote the last book in the series in 2013. Hopefully, she may someday write another book!
