I’ve taken some time to process what happened at the first presidential debate last week, read some of what has been written about it, and rewatched parts of it to be sure what I thought I saw happened.
To say I am gravely concerned about the state of our country is a gross understatement. It’s been apparent for a while now that the President is getting loopier every day, and there is no shame in that, he’s 81 years old and the frailties of age claim us all at some point. If you have ever had a relative go through a similar decline, you must have seen the signs in the President. My mother died of early onset Alzheimers at the youngish age of 64 and there are some striking similarities in the vacant stare, the open mouth, the head tilt, and the weird blinking between her and Biden. It marked the increase in the loss of her abilities when this started to happen and it was not long, maybe six months before she lost everything that mattered. That is to say, we lost her. Her body still functioned well enough, although that didn’t last long, but her mind was essentially gone.
It’s a tragic fate for anyone but more so in this case because he is supposed to be running the most powerful nation on earth.
